Galax-Carroll-Grayson Mobile Intensive Care Division

Established in 1976, the Galax-Grayson-Carroll Mobile Intensive Care Division has four ambulances and 12 full-time employees who are trained Emergency Medical Technicians with Cardiac Tech certification. The Service offers advanced cardiac life support with the American Heart Association and pediatric advanced cardiac life support (PALS) with the American Heart Association. They respond to any rescue operation and also offer transport to homes, doctors' offices or most critical care facilities. They teach CPR classes in the service area. They are the emergency medical service and ambulance service for the City of Galax and the ambulance service for Grayson and Carroll counties.

Hours: The office is open from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM with a lunch break from 1 to 2 PM. January through July; the office is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. August through December, it is open Monday through Friday. The office also is open the Saturday before each election.
Voting Locations: The city's three precincts are : Galax High School, Mink Pontiac-Buick-GMC on Glendale Road and the Galax Mason Lodge on Washington Street.
At the November 1998 general election, Galax had around 3,228 registered voters.

The bus runs from 8 AM to 5 PM and covers the City of Galax. Passengers must call at least 24 hours ahead to schedule a bus ride. Passengers are picked up at their home and dropped off at their destination within the city limits. They are picked up and taken back home as soon as possible. Cost is 50 cents each way. The bus seats 12 passengers and is wheelchair accessible. The transit service is provided by the District III Cooperative.
Trash collection for city residents is $24 for three months. Customers are charged quarterly with their water/sewer bill. Businesses are also billed quarterly, but separately from their water/sewer bills. They are allowed to have three to seven 32-gallon containers or a four or six yard dumpster. Services: The agency serves the City of Galax and Carroll and Grayson counties. Administers all federal agricultural programs, including the burley and flue tobacco program, commodity loans, stewardship incentive program, environmental quality incentive program, conservation reserve program (setting aside erodible cropland), tree assistance program, emergency feed assistance program, non-insured crop assistance program, farm loan programs and the Agricultural Market Transition Act program.
